The plain-English version

Terms

Good cake should not require a law degree. These are the working rules for ordering from Sophia's Cakes, written as clearly as we can. They are still a real agreement, so please read them.

Last updated: 31 October 2026

1. The agreement

These terms govern cake orders and consult calls supplied by Sophia's Cakes. By placing an order or booking a call, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not book.

2. Your order

Your booking selects the cake, price, and collection slot shown at checkout. An order is accepted when payment is completed and you receive a booking confirmation. Check the confirmation carefully and tell us promptly if anything is wrong.

Orders require at least 72 hours notice. Collection is available Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, Sydney time. Collection location and any final instructions are supplied with your booking confirmation.

3. Prices and payment

Prices are in Australian dollars. Full payment is due when you order. Stripe processes card payments for us; we never see or store your full card number. A cake is not booked until payment succeeds.

4. Changes and cancellations

We start planning and buying ingredients for your cake before collection day. Contact us at least 72 hours before your slot to request a change or cancellation. Approved cancellations made by that point receive a full refund.

Inside 72 hours, we may not be able to change or refund an order because work and ingredient purchasing may already have begun. Contact us anyway; we will be straight with you about what is possible.

5. Collection and care

Please collect at your confirmed time, or let us know if you are running late. Check the cake before leaving where practical. Once collected, transport, storage, serving temperatures, and timely refrigeration are your responsibility. Follow the care instructions provided with the cake.

6. Allergies and dietary needs

You must tell us about allergies and dietary requirements before ordering. Our kitchen handles common allergens including wheat, eggs, milk, and nuts. We take reasonable care with requests, but cannot promise an allergen-free environment unless we expressly agree in writing.

7. Handmade means individual

Our cakes are handmade. Small variations in piping, colour, fruit, flowers, and finish are part of the craft, not defects. Natural and seasonal decorations may differ from illustrations. Any substantial agreed design requirement should be written in your booking details.

8. Consult calls

A free consult is an initial planning conversation, not a confirmed custom-cake order. Custom pricing, design, timing, and availability are agreed separately. Please give reasonable notice if you cannot attend.

9. Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified.

10. If we need to cancel

If illness, supply failure, or another exceptional event means we cannot fulfil your order, we will contact you promptly. You may choose a mutually available replacement slot or a full refund. We are not liable for indirect losses to the extent the law allows.

11. Privacy

We handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy. Short version: collect less, protect it, never sell it.

12. General

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. If one provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in force. We may update these terms; the version posted when you order applies to that order.

13. Contact

Questions, changes, or something not right? Email hello@sophiascakes.com. A direct conversation beats a mysterious clause every time.
